My teaching style is very hands on. I like to show the student how its done and make them repeat the process over until the concepts are understood. I also like the students to have choices and some sort of control over their own learning processes so that there is mutual respect amongst peers and myself.
About midway through my studies at Northeastern University, I started teaching in after-school programs. There I taught middle school and high school ages kids how to DJ and produce music. I evaluate the student and see where he/she stands and move forward in progressing their skill. Every instrument is different and difficult in its own way. I will teach the student the most productive way to practice by using the technique I learned by professors and professional musicians. For trumpet, I work on the embochure, and breathing. For violin, I evaluate the way the student holds the instrument including posture. I use a special tape to help guide with the notes which I use as training wheels, and take them down one at a time as the student progresses. The student learns at his/her pace and will vary by the amount of practice he/she puts into it.
