Calculus I is one of my top subjects! My personal favorite. We interpret graphs and slopes along with the slope of the slope. Otherwise Acceleration. This is one of my best math subjects. I passed both semesters of calculus I with A+, not to mention honorary certifications for showing excellence in this field.

I think the easiest teaching style is to show students how every concept relates. How it relates to other subjects previously learned, why it relates to the real world and why should it relate to school.
I believe my experience falls directly on the amount of effort I have put into the subjects. Coming from another country ad having a lack of communication due to an absence of knowledge of the English language, I have battled my way through school. I have had to put the time and effort into every subject I learned and will not hesitate to share that knowledge with any other student. My experience and abilities are demonstrated really by my efforts and quantity of knowledge of the subjects.

I use Socratic questioning strategies and experiential learning to ensure that students understand why a concept applies rather than just memorizing formulas. I use manipulatives and visual aids to ensure that multiple modalities are integrated. I work with the whole student as a person, identifying how the student learns and teaching the student how to adapt various teaching styles to his/her learning style.
I have 9 years of experience teaching high school; all courses - AP Calculus, pre-calculus, algebra 2, geometry, algebra, pre-algebra (including special needs and english learners), and practical applications. Over the last 20 years, I have tutored students in all of the above subjects as well as elementary math concepts, writing strategies, and reading recovery. I am NCLB certified and focused on the defined national & state standards of each subject.

I have been tutoring and teaching mathematics up to and including calculus while I was in college to the present day. most students that I have tutored I find to have a minor miss-perception of what they have failed to comprehend. To find these areas of confusion I need to have discussions with the students. These problems are usually easy to overcome once the student is aware of a different perspective. I enjoy helping students overcome these hurdles and go on to succeed in math.
I have taught with lecture and with physical objects that I have created. My teaching style will vary with what the student needs. Some students need a manipulative to see the concept. Others need to hear or see it in another way. Adapting my style to fit their need is one of my strong points.

A Little Bit About Me...

One of my best attributes is patience. I try to explain concepts differently if students don't initially understand. Teaching math requires this because there are many instances when students lose their focus. My goal is to try to relate math into something they can relate to their lives, which makes the student math experience interesting.

In addition, I also teach 1-1 sessions for the No Child Left Behind.
