A Little Bit About Me...

I am a French native speaker. I gave private tutoring lessons at the University Language Center to adults and their families as well as students preparing for the Graduate Proficiency Test (GPT) at the University of Minnesota. I was committing 2 to 3 hours a week of ESL, math and science tutoring junior high students from immigrant family background at Abraham Lincoln High School. My dedication made me noticed and recognized by the principal of the school which allowed me to work as an ESL teacher in the summer of 2004. In all my tutoring experience I have been extremely successful, in getting my students to pass the GPT, in achieving goals for the adults and their families, as well as for the kids from minority communities.

I approach teaching and tutoring as an exercise in problem solving. It requires assessment of the student's background, previously mastered skills, learning style, and engagement with the content. I believe that anyone can be taught anything; the key is developing an engaged, encouraged student with the fundamental knowledge to grasp the concepts at hand. Sometimes this requires remediation of specific skills. Other times, a student needs to understand the big picture so concepts can take root. Some students may require a visual demonstration while others master concepts best by diving head first into the content and asking questions when they arrive at a sticking point. I have earned my B.S. in Business Administration, studying many different courses. During my undergrad years, I was able to tutor graduate and undergraduate in their areas of weakness. These subjects included Financial Accounting, Micro and Macroeconomics, Literature, and many more. I have been able to teach them but also learn from them. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a guest speaker at Middle Schools on economics and have worked with youth as a sports coach for fifteen years. My career has been in Marketing where I have risen to the top of organizations in part due to my development of young talent to its highest potential.
As in sports coaching, I believe that an academic tutor's main goal is to put the student in a position to be successful. My approach is different for each student based on how they best learn. I believe that real world examples are well retained and make a connection for the student between study and application.
