A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Reading Buddy in the Hoover School System for the last 10 years and am currently working with students in the Latino After-School Program at Rocky Ridge Elementary. While volunteering, I worked with struggling readers, English Language Learners, and students is Special Ed with ADD/ADHD. I'm currently working toward my Masters in Teaching - English as a Second Language and enjoy working with ELLs. Last summer, I worked for ETS, Educational Testing Services, as an item writer for TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication )in Princeton, NJ. I am an August 2009 graduate of the Adult Education/ESL program at the University of Alabama—Birmingham. I chose to study adult ESOL because I believed it would complement my undergraduate academic background in International Studies, and I have never been disappointed. Since the summer of 2006, I have served as an ESL instructor in a free class for adult learners at Shelton State Community College. Our adult learners include pre-literacy clients, international students desiring to attend university, but unable to afford paid second language instruction, and all levels of academic achievement in between these two extremes.
