A Little Bit About Me...

I started working in the school system in 2001 volunteering as a tutor for at risk kids. I tutored numerous mathematic course for over 6 years. I have earned a one bachelor degree in biology and hope to earn my second degree in mathematics as well as in education. I have learned to do research and solve proofs. I worked at MUS biology lab under Dr. Gary Ervin for a year and I did research on wetland and plants. I have written numerous research papers and have numerous skills in the labatory. I have also tutored in biology, and chemistry.
I don't have the certification to be a teacher but I have been student teaching since seeking a degree in biology. I love working with students. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I was heavily involved in volunteering and mentoring in everything from education to community outreach programs. After I received my undergraduate degree, I became a corps member in the 2003 Teach for America corps. As a corps member, I served as a member of a national service corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. A Little Bit About Me...

In May of 2010, I successfully completed my fourth year of teaching. Each year has been different. The children of today learn in many different ways. There has been a change in learning styles over the course of time. Some children may learn through hands on activities and modeling, while others learn through lecture. Regardless of the learning style, I have learned that it is my job to make learning relevant and meaningful to students.
The role of the teacher is to be a facilitator. The teacher facilitates the students in making personal decisions as well as participates in discussions that affect society. The teacher also helps build a foundation in subject matter to help develop a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the world through different disciplines.
