Experience Summary
I am originally from Tokyo, Japan, and a native Japanese speaker. I have relocated
from Japan to the United States and I am fluent in both Japanese and English. I
specialize in teaching Japanese and intercultural communication.
I have been a Japanese language teacher for foreign students since I was studying
at a university in Japan. I was a private tutor for foreign students who aimed to enter colleges and universities in Japan for more than 10 years. I also have 7 years of experience working for Japan Airlines as a cabin attendant and went overseas in
more than 30 countries, so I have abundant intercultural communication experiences
with people worldwide.
From those former experiences, I started to work as a service hospitality instructor
for several hospitality industries such as airlines, restaurants, hotels, banks,
hospitals and dental clinics, general trading companies, gas companies, and public
transportation companies (trains and buses) as well. In almost 150 companies I
taught “Effective communication methods in working places”, “Intercultural
communication”, “How to communicate with customers“ and “Honorifics” (??
Keigo). I provided several pieces of training for employees working for Motorola in Japan, too.
Teaching Style
I absolutely love teaching the Japanese language to students of all ages and
meeting new people from all over the world. Teaching has always been a passion of
mine and one of my methods of loving people. I always enjoy guiding students to not
only passing tests but helping them become both competent and intuitive in
the Japanese language. Helping others learn and grow is so important to me.
My teaching style is to leverage my linguistic knowledge and compare/contrast
both languages and cultures to help my students understand and master the
language efficiently. Also, since the language and its culture are tightly connected, I
usually teach Japanese culture and intercultural communication as I teach the
language. I teach Japanese at all levels, and my lessons have been popular and
well-received among my students in universities and the hospitality industries.
I also teach K-12 students, and adult students who want to learn Japanese for
their career advancement, and who are simply interested in studying
Japanese language and culture.
My Hobbies
Playing tennis, reading books, travel, cooking, and swining.
