Experience Summary
I provide one-on-one or group instructions and tutoring for all levels of experience: from real beginners to very advanced levels. I provide materials for all levels of experience. I can help you to improve your verbal expression, pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills. I help students to prepare for college exams, I teach professionals to pass US government DLI and FSI exams, TRKI (Russian Test as Foreign Language). I have background in Linguistics and Translation and have been teaching for over 20 years to a wide range of professionals and people who simply love Russian language and Culture. It has never been easier to learn another language through virtual learning with a teacher and wide variety of accessible materials on line. The student’s progress in speaking, listening, and reading depends on developing competence: sociolinguistic ( understanding and using appropriate devices for politeness, formal and informal language), grammatical (accuracy and complexity of sentences produces and processed), discourse (understanding and using devices to link sentences into paragraphs), strategic (getting messages across, organizing ideas, being clear and persuasive) and intercultural (knowing about background and attitudes shared by native speakers, feeling at home with these things and using them appropriately). The integrated skill approach exposes language learners to authentic language and challenges to interact naturally in the language, gain a true picture of the richness and complexity of the language as employed for communication. Language becomes a means of interaction and sharing among people. Integrating the language skills promotes the learning of real contact, not just the dissection of language forms..
Teaching Style
I use the Communicative Learning Teaching for my classes. The communicative approach is a method that emphasizes interaction both as a means of learning and as the ultimate goal. The communicative approach is especially used to teach speaking in the target language. Speaking lessons should always concentrate on communication, which means sometimes ignoring mistakes that do not interfere and finding ways around mistakes that do interfere. What mistakes you do and do not accept should be determined by the level at which the student is expected to perform. My classes are Student-Centered. I choose topics according to the student’s interests, both personal and professional. I use many authentic materials, created by a native speaker and intended for native speakers, written or recorded. Proficiency in reading and listening means the ability to handle authentic texts—and the best way to develop that ability is through practice. Using series of authentic activities, moving from simpler to more complex, and amount of support provided by the teacher is called scaffolding. Highly scaffolded (or fully guided) activities provide more context and predictive indicators for the learner. Less scaffolded (or open/free) activities require learners to produce more complete language on their own during the activity, without much support from the lesson materials or from the teacher. For example, role-plays generally involve little scaffolding: learners may be assigned roles and a scenario and then must create a conversation on their own. So learners rapidly gain a true picture of the richness and complexity of the language as employed for communication. Moreover, this approach stresses that language is neither just an object of academic interest nor merely a key to passing an examination; instead, language becomes a means of interaction and sharing among people. This approach also allows teacher to track students' progress in multiple skills at the same time. Integrating the language skills promotes the learning of real content, not just the dissection of language forms. Finally, the integrated-skill approach can be highly motivating to students of all ages and backgrounds.
