Experience Summary
I am a full-time teacher and have been in the classroom for more than 7 years. I have taught various ages and subjects including 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I am currently a 5th grade STEM teacher, specializing in math and science. I enjoy being able to work with kids who have previously struggled, and have been told to follow the steps being taught, but have never had the opportunity to understand why those steps matter or what they are really learning. As a kid, I struggled with math, and like many, followed the steps of fractions, equations and decimals, not knowing why any of these steps had to be done or why anyone though it made sense. As a teacher I see the difference that understanding foundational skills can make and how everything in math is interconnected. By learning these foundational skills, kids can unlock understanding about math that can help them through their entire life.
Teaching Style
Through my experience I have learned the importance of making sure kids understand the WHY of what they are learning. For kids to have a full understanding of what they are being taught, they need to understand the foundational skills that have led up to what they are learning. By helping fill in these gaps, kids will be mores successful in the future and be able to transfer their knowledge to understand what comes next. Its important that kids don’t just follow the steps, but know why the steps matter.
My Hobbies
I love reading, watching movies, and playing video games.
