Experience Summary
I am a level II certified secondary teacher with a Masters in Education from the University of New Mexico. I currently hold a secondary teaching license in Science & Health in both New Mexico and Colorado (I am not certified in Math). I have over 15 years of teaching experience along side a unique background working in the vast field of science. I have served the Albuquerque public school community for the past 6 years with the last 3 years teaching chemistry & health at a New Tech, PBL (Project Based Learning) school. I have served students from all walks of life, socioeconomic background, varying abilities, interests and need. I teach from a place of personal and life experience that brings relevance and interest to the subject matter wherever possible. I have worked as the Education Coordinator at the Albuquerque Bio Park Zoo, taught Continuing Education Classes at the University of New Mexico and volunteered in India & Nepal teaching English as a second language. Teaching Style
I believe in hands-on learning wherever possible and bring relatable analogies and experience to my teaching to create a worthwhile experience for the learner that will keep them engaged. I believe in having a strong work-ethic and personal responsibility from my students- ultimately, their success is up to them, not their teacher or their parents however, I will guide them and nurture their learning experience.
My Hobbies
I am a traveller and naturalist at heart. I recently spent two months working as a volunteer at a school and orphanage in India & Nepal. My husband and our young son and 2 dogs spend our weekends exploring the outdoors from cycling & skiing to hiking in the beautiful San Juan Mountains here in Durango, Co. I love to read, enjoy all forms of art & entertainment that enriches our lives. I also play the fiddle as a hobby, but am not quite good enough to give lessons! We try to give back to our community in any way that we can and hope to be involved in more community & volunteer events as our son gets a bit older.

I am currently taking the year off from full-time teaching to be home with our 5 month old son. I am passionate about teaching and I love working with students in small groups or one-on-one as I believe students often develop a block in their learning that may come from insecurities & fear that prevent them from seeking their true potential. As an educator and mentor I help students find a way around these hurdles to find success. There is nothing more amazing to me then watching a student succeed where they thought they could not, or helping them become interested in a subject they felt was boring or unnecessary.
