Teaching Style
When I became a general education teacher, I worked towards making my math lessons activity-based while rotating through small groups of students for personalized lessons.

ADD/ADHD |

I was diagnosed as ADD when I was in elementary school. My issue with the diagnosis always was, "Is there something wrong with me that I can't sit down and listen for hours with a pencil and paper, or is it with the fact I have to sit down and listen for hours with only a pencil and paper?"
When I became a general education teacher, I worked towards making my math lessons activity-based while rotating through small groups of students for personalized lessons. I have found that many of the symptoms of ADD/ADHD are mitigated when students are doing a variety of activities with someone who has the time and patience to kindly redirect them when they become distracted. |

Testing Strategies |

Elementary students can struggle with standardized math tests because they view it as a math test as opposed to a problem-solving test. In math, one has to know how to apply a skill to come up with a correct answer. For multiple choice test, one can often times find the correct answer by using other types of reasoning outside of mathematics, or at least make choosing the correct answer choice significantly more probable. |
