Experience Summary
I have been learning Arabic for the last ten years. I started learning Arabic in the military in 2009 where I have continued learning it since. Below exists a list of my major experiences and accomplishments with Arabic.
- Learned Iraqi Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic for 18 months full-time.
- Spent a month in Jordan in 2015
- Spent a month in Egypt in 2016
- Spent two months in Jordan in 2018.
- In 2017, I spent 100+ hours assisting Arab refugees including spot interpretations and translations.
Teaching Style
I prefer learning through doing and am open to other methods too. I have experience with tutoring students learning English as a second language and students of Arabic. With both, I like to focus on what the student wishes to learn. I believe this creates a strong incentive to use and improve with the language.
My Hobbies
Learning Arabic, Judo, fantasy baseball, listening to podcasts.
Other Comments
Having learned Arabic as a second language, I understand what it is like to study and practice Arabic. This puts me in a position to effectively teach students of Arabic.
I am most capable with speaking in dialect and reading in Modern Standard Arabic (especially media Arabic).
