Experience Summary
I have a passion for learning and teaching organic chemistry. I have been involved in the organic chemistry academically since I was sixteen, when I read my first organic chemistry text book cover to cover. I have been employed as a tutor at the community college level, focusing mainly on chemistry. I have been employed as a teaching assistant at the college level since 2010. I have led organic chemistry lecture recitations, test review sessions, and been employed as an independent contract tutor for over 10 years. I have 4 years of experience teaching organic chemistry laboratories for majors and a separate section for non-majors. While teaching I have written and graded assignments, notebooks, quizzes, and tests. As a tutor, I have experience both on the student and the professor side.
Teaching Style
I tutor to the students particular learning style. I excel both in individual and group environments, but prefer to keep groups smaller than 6 students in order to really work with each students particular style of learning. I have prepared review sheets, lead homework sessions, and even given practice exams, breaking down answers to questions both on the board and on paper with my students.
Other Comments
During the first 15-20 minutes of our initial tutoring session, I will want to get to know you, your learning style, your academic background, and where you stand in coursework. From then on I will be focused on making you an expert in organic chemistry. I have never had a student whose grades did not significantly improve after meeting with me.
