Experience Summary
I am a native Russian speaker, originally from Ukraine. I hold a degree in linguistics from a Ukrainian university and am currently in my senior year at CUNY studying French and German literature. I have been employed as a language tutor at my college for over a year.
I offer lessons in Russian for all levels and will tailor a study program based on your needs, goals, and learning preferences. We can work with your preferred course book or with study materials that I will provide. I can help you with pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, conversational skills, and language for special purposes, like a vacation or business trip. I can also help you with homework if you are currently taking a Russian course.
Teaching Style
Having been taught for so many years by different professors with different teaching approaches, as well as from my own experience of working as a tutor, I have discovered my own style of teaching, that is, tailoring lessons based on the student's learning preferences and goals, creating a fun and non-oppressive learning environment, preferring Socratic method in order to encourage the student to rely on and trust her/his own intelligence and knowledge.
My Hobbies
I genuinely enjoy helping others in pursuing their academic and intellectual goals and I always try to incorporate in my lessons relevant cultural, historical, or political elements. I am applying to a PhD program in Cultural Anthropology for the next year, as I would like to continue explore other cultures.
