Experience Summary
I am a certified teacher, currently practicing in Covington, La. I've taught ACT and SAT prep for 7 years, along with the essential skills intervention required to raise scores. My teaching experience includes: 10 years classroom teacher, grades 9-12 Lee County, FL School District. I taught ACT/SAT prep, reading, 9-12th English, Writing for College Success, grammar, essay writing and composition, journalism, yearbook and virtual school. I was a Teacher Leader and Master Teacher from 2013-2015. From 2011-now, I also worked as a private tutor, specializing in ACT/SAT prep Verbal, Essay, and Science. Additional tutoring experience includes preparing for AP tests (except math and physics), homework help (except math and advanced science), interventions in reading, grammar, vocabulary, study skills and organization.
Teaching Style
I believe every student can learn. The key is to find your student's strengths and inspire her or his internal motivation. One on one teaching makes a significant difference even in the most reluctant learners. For those who are motivated to earn their best score, I routinely see more than 3 point gains in Reading, Writing/English and Science on the ACT. Because of the family resemblance of standardized tests, you will see not only ACT score increases, but improved English and Math grades as well. While my specialty is Verbal and Science, I have a number of incredible strategies for the math section that can help your student answer 6-12 more questions correctly.
