Experience Summary
My teaching experience started as a volunteer tutor for ESL learners. For two years I volunteered at the Benjamin Franklin Library, located in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. It was a big step, but I was ready for the challenge! As a tutor I was responsible for developing my own teaching style and schedule with students. I used teaching materials provided by the library and I also encouraged students to pick their favorite books to let my students know that they can be decision makers. After years as a tutor, I worked as a contractor throughout Los Angeles County. It was at that time, when I was a Supplemental Educational Service provider that I truly felt my passion to teach flourish.
Teaching Style
Growing up, I observed how some students in my classes instantly understood and learned quicker than me. I understood the same thing they did, because I received similar grades. The difference was in how information was taught. As a tutor, my goal is to evaluate a students best method of learning. This is done by asking the student, guardian and presenting a student with different techniques of learning (visual, verbal, and hands-on).
My Hobbies
When I am not working or in school, I enjoy going for walks, going to eat with friends and family and reading a book late at night.
I am a real sucker for books with interesting titles. So much, that often when I am deeply invested in reading, I find a new book and
forget to finish it because of my new discovery!
