About Me

Experience Summary

Jan Hunter is a creative problem solver who has enjoyed two successful careers. Her experience as a radio journalist was not only rewarding and award winning but also an ideal training ground for her public relations career. Her inherent understanding of how the media really works is one of her greatest assets and a consistent key to her clients’ success. Jan’s media background proved a springboard to a career in public relations, working first as a communications manager for a prominent New England resort before becoming Corporate Public Relations Director at Boston advertising agency RGS&H where she supervised a range of activities such as strategy development, crisis communications, and event planning. After advising a diverse spectrum of clients including Star Markets, Ecco Shoes, Togo’s, (part of the Dunkin Donuts chain), and nationwide agency Rapp Collins Marcoa and its affiliates, Jan founded Hunter & Co Communications. Working with a talented pool of communications professionals, Jan has created strategic communications programs for top brands across numerous sectors. Financial services has been an area of particular focus and Jan has partnered with banks, mutual funds and financial service technology firms to design and execute both proactive strategies and issues management campaigns. For example; Jan led the media relations efforts of Citizens Funds for over seven years, creating a press presence for the firms’ pioneering work in the realm of socially responsible investing. Through Jan’s endeavors, the firms’ senior executives built relationships with numerous prominent journalists, resulting in regular coverage in publications such as the WSJ, FT, CNBC and Smart Money. Jan also worked at State Street where she was a member of the global PR and marketing group working with STT’s various divisions around the world including their corporate responsibility group. Jan also works with several nonprofits and is a former board member of New Generation Energy, a nonprofit that offered investment options in renewable energy and energy efficient projects.
