Experience Summary

I am a passionate professional committed to educating people to increase their knowledge and access to opportunities for both personal and professional success. I have served as a tutor for over twenty years. I have completed math studies through Calculus II. I served in the military, the Navy, for twenty-four years. The experience of serving in the military allowed me to meet and to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I believe in helping others achieve their goals and have mentored numerous students and peers. For the past three years I have worked in the school system as a substitute teacher. I have learned different methods to present information to students to ensure that learning is occurring. I am committed to learning and continue to look for new challenging learning opportunities. I am a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance. I tutor both school-age students and adults. My strategy is to find the best method of learning for my student and focus on improving their understanding of the subject through their learning style. Currently, the tutoring sessions have been more one-on-one and face to face. I have experience in online tutoring but prefer to meet with the student in a quiet environment like the library. My students usually improve their grade in mathematics by at least two grade levels. One student’s grade went from a ‘D” to an “A.” My goal in tutoring is to build the students confidence and to teach them study skills. I believe that everyone can learn and improve in weak subjects. My students are taught to believe in themselves and face the learning challenge head on and conquer it.
