Experience Summary
I grew up as a daughter of an elementary music teacher and volunteered in the Brevard County public school system from a very early age. In high school, I tutored several students ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade in subjects such as math, reading, social studies, and music and continued to tutor students ranging from elementary school to high school when I started to attend the University of Central Florida. This volunteer work has earned me many awards in the past, including the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for the entirety of the Brevard County school system.
I have a great deal of experience with children of all ages outside of tutoring. I have volunteered with a fantastic organization called Odyssey of the Mind for the last two years as the Problem Captain for the Primary (K-2) division in the Space Coast Region where I train judges for the competition, manage my division's Regional tournament site, and ensure a successful and positive experience for teams, coaches, and parents. I have also volunteered as a percussion instructor at Spessard Holland Elementary School where I taught fundamental percussion techniques to fifth and sixth graders, including reading music, ensemble skills, rhythmic accuracy, and utilizing dynamics.
When all is said and done, I have had a great deal of experience when it comes to tutoring and working with children of all ages and backgrounds.
Teaching Style
I am a very hands-on learner and like to incorporate that style when tutoring students. I am also a big story-teller since I believe that students tend to relate stories that coincide with the subject to their personal experiences which, in turn, helps them better understand the concepts being taught.
My Hobbies
I am a huge history buff and love to learn all about different forts, manors, and castles that were built during the Renaissance era to the present time. Along with history, I love music in all forms and can be caught playing my marimba or ukulele in my free time.
Other Comments
I am currently a sophomore at the University of Central Florida in Orlando majoring in Social Science Education with a minor in Humanities.
