Experience Summary
I've been working in graphic design since I was 18 when I was in the catalog department of Mary Maxim's doing simple computer layouts, pasteups and stat camera production. I was named 'new artist for the milenia' in 2000 by the Detroit Artist Market. I work currently with politicians judges marketing firms other clients providing brand management/design, print, microwebsites, and digital illustration services.
Teaching Style
I was taught by professionals, the teachers I had were drill sergants installing skills through repetition. I work much the same way. The lessons I create are going to repeat form and function, proportion, typography and layout, pre production planning as well as the subject matter. You have to learn to walk before you get to the Olympics. This helps refresh people looking for that, and instilling the skills and understanding of the time it will take you to get to where you want with your skills.
A computer is a tool, like a pencil nothing more, it won't make you a great artist, unless you have the foundation(s).
In the 'working' world...
Design isn’t about software or computers, it’s about visual communication. Every project has a set of goals that it seeks to accomplish. These goals might include anything from persuading someone to buy a candy bar to organizing a large amount of information in a meaningful way. We use design in conjunction with copywriting to accomplish these goals.
