Experience Summary
I have been teaching in a public school in the Sugar Land area for 27 years. For the past 10 years, I have taught both regular education and GT students in the English Language Arts block. Many of my former students were waived ESL intermediate students whose grasp of reading and writing grew within the time spent in my class. The students that I tutor have always shown tremendous growth in ability and confidence.
I have privately tutored several students from grades 1 through 5 with much success.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is one of facilitator. I like to emphasize student-centered learning giving students the responsibility to take the initiative for meeting the demands of various learning tasks.
However, I am aware that many times with my regular education students and the students that I tutor, I am a combination of facilitator and demonstrator with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. I guide students in developing and applying their skills.
My Hobbies
In my spare time, I look for ways to make learning more fun for my students. I enjoy reading science fiction and epic fantasy books. I also enjoy walking for exercise.
Other Comments
I prefer to work with students in the public library in the mornings or early evenings.
