Experience Summary
former foreign service office with the US State Department, I realize that most people have different ways to learn. Thus, I strive to adjust my teaching delivery and technique to fit each respective client's needs. I meet my clients at Montgomery College and the Library and Starbucks at the Rockville Town Center.
A working parent, I understand the stress entailed with being a working adult, who also is in school. Effective tutoring demands effective communication of such constraints and expectations.
I possess over twenty years of teaching experience having taught at several colleges in NYC; and having led business seminars throughout my professional career. My approach tutoring is based in the cycle of my engagement with a given client. I begin with a directive approach, after assessing my client's knowledge-base, and level of understanding. As I progress in the course with the student I tend to use a more non-directional (coaching) type of approach, asking leading questions, and guiding the client as opposed to lecturing. I consider homework and problems sets as good tools with which to grow student understanding.
