Experience Summary
I have been teaching dance for four years, ranging from groups of 20 young students to private sessions for adults. I typically work with children and am experienced with large groups. I currently teach Ballet and Tap at Ajala Essence Dance Studio in Lansdowne, PA. I was the Performance Coordinator at Abington Friends Summer Enrichment Program in Jenkintown, PA. In addition, I have taught Hip Hop and Jazz at multiple intercity programs. I have also volunteered free Salsa lessons to adults.
Teaching Style
No matter the technique, I always start with a thorough warm up. I begin with relaxing exercises and lead into more rigorous and conditioning exercises. I then move on to teaching and reviewing the technique. I always make sure the client has a basic understanding of the form before moving onto more advance movement. I end with repertory/choreography to further develop the clients understanding of the movement and implement their findings into practical means. For children, I also leave time for a dance game to further challenge their understanding and entertain their senses.
Other Comments
I have lifelong training in Salsa dance (social), as my family emigrated from Havana, Cuba. This is my specialty with my clients, along with beginners hip hop and tap. I choreographed and performed with Temple University's premiere Hip Hop team Outta Kontrol, which won and featured in competitions all over the Tri-state area.
