Experience Summary
Roman has spent over three decades in the transportation industry, creating the Operations Technology function at FedEx Ground and serving as the first VP, Operations Technology & System Support. Roman lead the team that introduced hand held computing to the ground small package industry in 1990, and oversaw the subsequent deployment of four generations of hand held computers to the FedEx Ground workforce. Roman also led the initiatives to introduce wireless local area networking to over 500 facilities and wireless wide area networking in over 40,000 vehicles providing the basis for real time tracking used by the company to update its website. He has led numerous multi-million dollar, multi-year technology and business process initiatives that transformed how packages were picked up, sorted and delivered. Roman has extensive experience and expertise in Enterprise Transformation efforts, Technology & Business Process Life Cycle Management, and Technology Strategy development. Roman also served as the Chief Human Resources Officer and helped transform HR from a “support service” to a “business unit” and was a key architect of a field operations reorganization that produced $35MM in annual savings for the company. His most recent position was as the Vice President, Supply Chain Strategic Logistics Technology for Steak ‘n Shake Enterprises, headquartered in San Antonio Texas. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Roman earned his BSIE from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980 and his MSIE in 1983. He was recognized as the Outstanding IE Alumnus by the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. Roman is a Fellow and Past President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
