| I began teaching grammar in Composition courses while working on my Master's in English at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville many years ago using Harbrace Handbook. Since then, I have taught grammar within various English and leadership courses at Vanderbilt, Belmont, NSCC, and Price Waterhouse, and USACE primarily using Diane Hackers' books. Since Microsoft Word is only about 33 percent accurate, students need to learn correct (rather than spoken or "trendy," i.e., using "so" to begin an answer) grammar |

I have credibility as as writer of not only books, but articles about writing as well. The ability to write is not innate, but a skill, which is one of the skills that draws me to teaching it. I know from my own work in helping various populations the role that clear and persuasive writing can have in one's life - aside from writing papers for school. |
