Teaching Style

As a Visual Arts Teacher and Special Educator, I am a resourceful, energetic person with a commitment to fostering lifelong learning in students. I am positive, outgoing, and approachable, with a talent for drawing out young people and putting them at ease. My philosophy in education is that all children are capable of being successful in school and life and their experiences and accomplishments should feel both enjoyable and rewarding through their own desires and perseverances. Given the rapid advancements in technology, I have come to realize that students can access much of the information needed to be successful in life. With this in mind and given the ever changing classroom philosophies around methods and instruction, I believe teachers’ curriculum and lesson plans can also include ways to support their roles as facilitators in a classroom where the teacher then guides students to recognize their own interests, strengths and challenges, and to value the importance of being a life-long learner. In a global society, students should grow to feel they have the confidence to communicate their ideas worldwide and be active members in this 21st Century community.
