Special Educator
Worked with students in both the general and self-contained classroom settings; Adhered to timelines for the completion and submission of required paperwork; and acquired resources, methods, and strategies to manage classroom settings for a more conducive learning environment. I adapt well in professional team settings, possess strong communication skills, knowledgable in all high school subject areas, and my instruction in reading comprehension, writing, math, and art along with ELA/Math MCAS prep classes is strong.
Art Enrichment Teacher
Students learned and applied their understanding with the principles and elements of art, improved their technical skills in drawing and painting, and acquired knowledge in the History of Art with an emphasis on 20th Century American Art. Other skills learned include photography, design composition, perspective, color concepts, new vocabulary, group critiques, exhibiting artwork.
Math Enrichment Teacher
Taught enrichment course entitled, “Career and Finance,” students were given the opportunity to investigate current working careers and cost of living expenses. Through a series of worksheets, students learned the nature of work environments, training, employment, job outlook, projections, earnings, and related occupations. Students identified two careers of interest and developed portfolios that contained classroom worksheets, budget plans, and a sample of expenses including credit financing, tax forms, and their projects’ short and longterm goals. As a final project, students gave a PowerPoint presentation of one of their work career’s research to the class.
English Language Arts (ELA) Co-Teacher
Assisted in self-contained classrooms with modified curriculum; co-taught in mandated heterogeneric 10th Grade English Language Arts and Physics general education classrooms; lead art teacher in general education curriculum; and special education teacher for the self-contained modified Physics classes.
Teaching Style
As a Visual Arts Teacher and Special Educator, I am a resourceful, energetic person with a commitment to fostering lifelong learning in students. I am positive, outgoing, and approachable, with a talent for drawing out young people and putting them at ease. My philosophy in education is that all children are capable of being successful in school and life and their experiences and accomplishments should feel both enjoyable and rewarding through their own desires and perseverances.
Given the rapid advancements in technology, I have come to realize that students can access much of the information needed to be successful in life. With this in mind and given the ever changing classroom philosophies around methods and instruction, I believe teachers’ curriculum and lesson plans can also include ways to support their roles as facilitators in a classroom where the teacher then guides students to recognize their own interests, strengths and challenges, and to value the importance of being a life-long learner. In a global society, students should grow to feel they have the confidence to communicate their ideas worldwide and be active members in this 21st Century community.
