Experience Summary
I taught 1st Grade Gifted and Talented for 4 years in Baytown, Texas as a self-contained classroom teacher. I was the Team Lead teacher the last two years. All 4 of those years, I also tutored several students in reading. I am also currently pursuing my Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Literacy Emphasis from The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). I am in my practicum class now, have two classes over the summer and my Master's Degree will be completed. After receiving my Master's Degree, I will pursue a Master Reading Teacher Certification as well as a Reading Specialist Certification. My absolute joy is to watch young children learn to read and write!
Teaching Style
My teaching style is devoted to your child's individual needs. I would use a balanced literacy approach which includes one-on-one reading instruction based on each child's developmental level, includes phonics and word work, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary development.
My Hobbies
I currently stay-at-home with my two young daughters. In my downtime, I enjoy coffee dates with my husband, playing outside and going for walks with my daughters, reading a good book, enjoying the sunshine, working in the yard, or watching any old classic movie - South Pacific is one of my favorites!
Other Comments
My teaching philosophy is "They won't care how much you know until they know how much you care." I have always treated students as if they were my own children with patience, love, and kindness. This is a true passion for me!
