Experience Summary
My name is Wenjing Luo, a 24-year-old girl who is from China. I am fluent in English and Chinese. I have been living in the U.S. for three years. I first came to the U.S. to participate in a cultural exchange program when I was a freshman in college. It was at that time that I developed my interest of exploring another country with completely different culture from mine.
After I graduated from college, I came back to the U.S. and got my Master of Education Degree at Vanderbilt University. During my two years of graduate study at Vanderbilt, I actively participated in lots of volunteering and intern opportunities in K-12 school settings. I worked with kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and high school students by engaging in some activities, such as guided-reading, math tutoring, and game playing. These experiences provided an area for me to apply what I had learned in school into real-life practice and deepened my understanding of children of different ages.
After I graduated from Vanderbilt University, I moved to Orlando to become a high school ESOL teacher. This full-time work experience shaped my understanding of being a teacher to a higher level. During my interaction with my students and colleagues, both my professional knowledge and classroom management skills were increased. As I got to know more about my students, such as the stories they brought into the classroom and backgrounds where they were from, I became more aware of the importance of being a teacher, which was not only about passing on knowledge, but also caring about the students as whole.
I am sure my strong empathy for other people, my skillset, and my love for students will make me a good fit for the tutoring position.
