Experience Summary
I recently obtained my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where I graduated in the top of my class with a 4.0. While there, I often tutored people in writing and research, as well as serving as a Teaching Assistant for various classes including: Theatre History, Voice for the Actor, and Shakespeare. In addition to my degree in Theatrical Performance, I received a minor in English Literature. Since I've been home, I've been helping some of the younger members of my family with their writing and study skills, and their grades have greatly improved since we've started working together. I love teaching and spreading my passion for learning, and I can't wait to show your child just how valuable and fun knowledge can be!
Teaching Style
I'm very laid back, but I know how to get results. I have always been a very disciplined student, but I realized pretty early in my academic career that unless I make the subject interesting for me, I'll never grasp the material. I make it a point to get to know every student so that I can personalize their learning style. The only way they'll learn and understand something is if they WANT to do so. I offer a different approach to things that students may not get in the classroom, to hopefully expand their interest in a subject they never thought they'd like.
My Hobbies
I'm a working theatre professional, so most of my spare time goes toward that. I enjoy sewing and designing costumes (I paint with watercolor for my designs), which while it's related to theatre, I find it to be very calming. I sing all the time, so that's something you should be ready for. I also like to teach stage combat - I got into it during undergrad and it's something that I think is just super cool. I teach unarmed, rapier/dagger, broadsword, and small sword. My other hobbies are cooking, reading, Zumba, jigsaw puzzles, and obsessing over the Marvel Universe (both film and comics).
Other Comments
I will do everything in my power to make sure that your child can succeed. I teach because I love watching others discover the joy in learning, and that's what truly makes me happy. Kids are so important, we should make them feel like they're worth the effort.
