Experience Summary
As graduate students to have the opportunity to both teach and do research. My teaching skills have been strengthened through a variety of experiences. In particular, I was the sole instructor for Mechanics-Statics (CE 233), with an enrollment of 38 students. In this class, I was responsible for preparing my class notes, teaching, holding office hours, and designing and grading exams. A major struggle for student in this course was to solve three dimensional problems, I used my skills to stimulate their minds as how to view the objects in space and reference it to the 3D coordinate system. In class I stressed the importance of understanding and analyzing problems before anticipating the solution, as I believe it is a critical skill for engineers to master. I had a very good course evaluation. In addition, I worked as a teaching assistant for several civil engineering core courses, including Mechanics-Statics (CE 233), Mechanics of Materials (CE 301), Civil Engineering Materials (CE 311), Determinate Structural Analysis (CE 315), Soil Mechanics (CE 357), Engineering Economy and Law (CE 450), and Foundation Design (CE 457). By assisting students in their assignments, I progressively developed strategies to facilitate understanding and problem solving. my teaching philosophy is my belief that new knowledge is like a new language; to be able to understand it, the student must master its alphabet first. Therefore, as a tutor, I will make sure that the knowledge of the basic subjects is solid and clear.
