Experience Summary
My relationship with the German language started while I was in diapers and has only grown since.
Evidence? My first word was "Licht" (light), I first called airplanes "Flieger" (small airplane) and I used to wag my pointer finger and warn those approaching the end of our driveway, "No, no Strasse!" (no, no street!).
I was raised in the U.S. and spoke primarily English at home, but I've been exposed to German my entire life. My curiosity of the language kicked in early, motivating me to study German from sixth grade through college, obtain a degree in German and spend a year living in Germany on a government-sponsored fellowship.
It was during my year in Germany that I realized how much I enjoyed teaching the language, as I tutored several young adults in Munich who had emigrated to Germany from countries such as Somalia and Iraq. During my work with them, I cultivated a tutoring style that emphasizes connecting with students, adjusting to their approach and needs and offering compassionate guidance while they develop their language skills.
Whether you've yet to learn your first German word or you're looking to expand upon what you've already learned, I would love to help lead you in learning a truly wonderful language. I can say from experience that learning a language (especially this one!) is, while difficult, one of the most rewarding and gratifying tasks you could undertake.
