Experience Summary
I have tutored off and on since high school, and have been a substitute teacher for all grades for the last six years. I excel at spelling and grammar, and had a classical education in literature, Latin and Greek. Because of this classical education, I have been able to teach in-depth,and to share the etymology of many English words with students and teachers alike. I graduated from college one year early, having tested out of all my general studies, which freed me to take independent studies classes, such as in Chaucer and Middle English.
Teaching Style
I engage the student with questions and illustrations. I am big on gentle correction and encouragement. I know the difference between Latinized English and real English, and I share this with my students. I know grammar is something one can't prescribe, just describe.
My Hobbies
Writing books, songs and poetry, drawing cartoons, learning new languages, studying word origins, swimming, singing, and the like.
Other Comments
I love working with others one-on-one. That's where I excel. I love trivia and am in the contestant pool for JEOPARDY for this season.
