Experience Summary
I believe deeply in the power of education to change lives, which is why I have dedicated my life to this purpose. I spent 5 years as a teacher and coach in the country of Vietnam. During this time I taught English as a second language, coached soccer and chess, and launched a sports training business during which time I trained all staff on work processes and procedures.
I have returned to the United States to complete a secondary teaching certificate in the subject areas of Business, Marketing, and History as well as a master's degree in education with an emphasis on Career and Technical Education). I completed those degrees in December, 2013.
While I enjoy interacting with an entire classroom I am particularly drawn to one-on-one instruction because I feel this is where I can have the deepest impact. I feel that the connection between the teacher and pupil and the level of trust that can be built in this situation allows for greater achievement and personal growth on the part of the student.
This is also a way for me to teach more subjects that I am passionate about and well trained in, including subjects like Chess and History. At a full time public teaching position, which is my current role, one is focused primarily on a single content area.
Finally, I believe education should be fun and that a stimulated and happy student leads to a love of education, which of course increases their chances of lifelong success exponentially. It is with the above perspective that I offer my tutoring services to students in the area.

Teaching Style
It has been my experience that integrating the various teaching approaches that research has shown to be effective gets consistent results across student groups. However, I have also found that hands on learning seems to lead to high efficacy in real world work related tasks as opposed to a strictly theoretical approach.
My Hobbies
Playing and studying chess, reading history and business literature, running and exercising, going to the cinema
