Experience Summary
I have 10 years of teaching experience with students in math and chemistry. For 4 of those years I ran a tutoring business in North Carolina working mainly with college prep students needing AP course and test prep help in math, chemistry and statistics. I have also worked as an analytical chemist for 9 years, working in pharmaceuticals and forensics labs. Additionally I have served as an assistant coach for the Ohio math team that represents the state in national math competitions.
Teaching Style
Problem-based learning (taking topics of interest to a students and using core concepts of that subject to solve real-world problems); example: using %change equations to determine how a portfolio is doing in terms of profit/loss.
Integrated math/science/technology approach to solving problems
Manipulative-based instruction (online: NLVM site; offline: virtual plus actual object use)
RTIm (Using repeated instruction over time if necessary to determine response to intervention)
My Hobbies
Developing and playing card and board games, mathematical modeling and statistical design, technical writing, weather forecasting and tracking, ministry, ping-pong
