Experience Summary
I attended Ohio University on an academic scholarship and graduated with honors in the spring of 2007 with a BA in Anthropology and a BS in Mathematics. Presently, I am finishing up a PhD in Applied Mathematics at the University of Cincinnati, where I hold a University Graduate Scholarship as well as a Laws Fellowship this past year. I have worked as a private tutor from 2001 through 2004 for elementary and middle school students. I have also tutored at the University of Cincinnati from 2008 to 2013 all different kinds of mathematics including pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, probability & statistics, calculus and differential equations. I have also taught several undergraduate math courses at the University of Cincinnati.
Teaching Style
I have worked with elementary, high school, and college students, providing instruction in various different types of mathematics. I think that course material should be taught to highlight practical applications since this is the purpose of learning something, so that it can be used later. This also allows students to relate to the material, learning it faster and remembering it longer. I encourage students that they have the ability to solve any problem and provide problem-solving strategies so that they have more confidence in their abilities. I have found that this strategy drastically reduces test anxiety.
