Experience Summary
Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love American Sign Language. I worked with an amazing mentor that I still keep in touch with. I have been fortunate enough to substitute for multiple school districts and different grade levels. I have also interpreted medical appointments and school orientation for Deaf parents of school age students. I am currently interpreting for an 8th grade student who is involved in football. We will then move on to basketball and then either baseball or track. I plan on returning to college with the next few months to begin the process of obtaining my Bachelor's degree.
Teaching Style
I think it is important to sit with the student and determine their strengths and weaknesses. I am very flexible in my teaching. I believe the student and I are a team. If he/she succeeds, we both succeed. I am always going over my notes, and thinking about different ways of teaching. I am open to suggestions from the student. If something doesn't work, I change it. I learn as much from the student as they do from me. It's a win-win!
My Hobbies
I have a very busy schedule, but spending time with my family is something that is very important to me. I enjoy walking or going for bike rides. I like to read a variety of books. I am also happy sitting in the backyard with a bon fire.
