Experience Summary
I have always had an interest in tutoring, starting in Elementary school where I would leave during recess in the fourth and fifth grade to spend time in my past Kindergarten teacher's classroom. There I would read to students, reinforce the teachings lead by the teacher, and serve as a role model. During my middle school summers I would return to that classroom to provide aid for the summer school kindergarteners before they were able to enter the first grade.
Upon entry into high school, I joined Project Understanding, a tutoring volunteer organization to serve children from low-income families who were falling behind in a classroom setting and needed some extra time and a different perspective to learn the material expected of them.
Once I graduated High School tutoring took a back seat to my studies, where I pursued and earned two degrees in four years with honors.
Since graduating I have been working freelance in the film industry, taking particular delight in projects that are aimed at children, particularly puppet films. I have also recently been accepted into a graduate degree program for English to earn my MFA.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is aimed at making the child feel good and happy with learning. Often children need tutoring in subjects that frustrate them, they miss one aspect and while they're spending time on that in class the teacher blazes past them adding more confusion. I take it upon myself to back track to the initial place where the confusion stemmed from and spend the time working through these rough patches. I gear everything as a game or story to create excitement in a subject that would normally earn groans. I want your child to feel proud of what they do know already, and use that happiness to fuel further learning.
My Hobbies
I have a vast array of hobbies, most of which I aim to make more than hobbies in my lifestyle.
I make short films, directing, producing, providing art and wardrobe design and construction, and other components as well.
I play the flute and alto sax.
I read and write often and am working on several volumes with the intent to publish.
I sew costumes for films, and also for conventions of the comic book and anime nature. This year my Halloween costume was Belle from Beauty and the Beast, children would linger on my porch to hear short fairy tales while they got their candy.
