Experience Summary
I have a high level of experience teaching in multiple fields. I have trained horses, which takes non-verbal communication, patience, kindness, clear directions, and strong leadership skills. I have taught horseback riding lessons for 7 years, which has taught me excellent communication skills, lesson-building skills, and flexibility. I have worked as coordinator for a barn, from which I gained high-level organizational skills. I have tutored multiple people in English as a Second Language, several in America on a one-on-one basis. I taught an ESL class of five boys ages 12-14 in an orphanage on the East side of Amman, Jordan. I have also taught a class of seven women of the community in East Amman as well, both of these positions involved people with no English skills (not even hello). With the boys, as it was an afterschool class, we focused on vocabulary and games. With the women, we worked on conversation, and currently are working on reading comprehension. Both of these posts were for four months.
Teaching Style
I like to tailor my teaching to the students, as evidenced above. With the orphans, I focused on games to engage them, as they had classes all day before and were in their home. With the women, I focused on grammar and vocabulary building, emphasizing on communication skills. Our reading comprehension class is discussion based. With the students in the US, I focused on academic writing, as I was tutoring for my College.
My Hobbies
I love reading, writing, riding horses, dancing, going to movies, walking in the park, and drinking tea. Seriously, tea.
