I am a Certified Teacher

Rates from $34 to $39

I can perfom tutoring:

  • In-home
  • Group

Will travel up to 20 miles

Additional Policies:

I would need a $3 surcharge on distances traveled over 10 miles from my previous location. I would need a cancellation without notice fee of $15 and a 'no show' fee of $20. Since I am allergic to cigarette and cigar smoke, I cannot be in a location where there is smoke. If someone smokes in the location of residence, the student(s) and I could meet in another location (library, restaurant, etc.). If we meet in the students' place of residence, it would have to quiet enough for us to be able to concentrate.

About Me

Experience Summary

I have 28 years of teaching experience in math - 4 years on the high-school level and 24 years on the college level. I have also done a lot of tutoring. Most students who have given me a chance to help them and have done their part have succeeded. Many students have told me that after I had the chance to help them, they understood math for the first time. Many students have told me that before I helped them that they hated math. But when they started understanding it, they didn't hate it anymore; in fact, some said that they even liked it.

Teaching Style

In tutoring, it is best to locate where the student is having trouble, and start at that point, since math builds on itself. I always begin by working 1 or 2 examples of a certain type of problem. Then, when the student is ready, let him/her work a similar problem. When the student has mastered that concept, we move on to the next type of problem.

My Hobbies

As a Christian, spending time each day praying and reading the Bible is a priority for me. I also enjoy attending Christian-focused acrivities. I enjoy watching football and basketball on TV, and playing tennis, basketball, slow-pitch softball, and volleyball. I also enjoy yard work and canoeing.

Other Comments

Being a Christian, I want to make the lives of everyone that I am around better. I consider myself more of a servant than a teacher, because I want to assist the student in the learning process.
