Experience Summary
NSF Detroit Area Precollege Engineering Program in Wireless Integrated Microsystems (Program Director):
Developed and instructed curriculum for a 5-week camp to teach precollege students topics in wireless communication, microfabrication and computer engineering. In an innovate approach, I developed a curriculum that used Lego robotics to teach students about digital circuits, physics, and algebra.
IBM Camp for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Instructor):
Developed and instructed curriculum for a two week camp to teach deaf and hard of hearing female middle school students topics in Chemistry. I taught chemistry concepts through hands-on projects where the girls made their own make-up products.
Grace Hopper Camp of Music and Technology (Co-Coordinator):
Developed and instructed curriculum to teach middle school students about electrical, computer and mechanical engineering, through the creation of music. The students learned Physics and Calculus by building a music box from scratch.
Women In Science and Engineering Robot C Camp (Instructor):
Co-planned and instructed a hands on camp, which used Lego Robotics to teach various topics in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), including C programming, to precollege girls.
University of Maryland Baltimore County, Center for Women in Information Technology (Associate):
Co-created a technology summer camp and after-school program for middle school girls. The camp and after school program focused on teaching the girls Algebra, geometry, trigonometry and chemistry through hands on experiments and activities.
Teaching Style
I believe in teaching all subjects using innovative methods that are tailored to the specific student. I have taught C++ programming through the use of robots, chemistry with cosmetics, and physics with music. I begin by listening to the student and understanding exactly what level they are at. I then develop a plan of action to get them to the level they need to be at for the grades they want. I don't believe that there is any such thing as a dumb question, only ignorant teachers. As such, my sucess is not based off of how well I explained the subject, but on how well the student understood. I will spend how many hours it takes to equip a student with the knowledge they need to take control of their own success.
