Experience Summary
I have been learning sign language for over eight years now and it is one of the passions in my life. I took two years of ASL in high school, three years in college and then got my bachelors degree in sign language interpreting with my minor in ASL studies. I have interpeted on and off for the last several years for schools and have found that my true passion in life is teaching. So now I am tutoring ASL. :)
Teaching Style
I can switch between several different teaching styles depending on your goal:
1) (for people who just want to practice) Giving time for you to structure parts of the tutoring and just being there for feedback and conversion.
2) (for people who want to pass a vocab test) We will be playing games and using parts of the Pimsleur method of teaching language to help you effortlessly remember and learn new vocab.
3) (for people who want to learn asl to communicate with deaf people) We will take a backward learning approach for the language learning the grammar and classifiers first and cementing the foundation of american sign language into you before starting on vocabulary.
My Hobbies
ASL, Curriculum development, soccer, games, and many more.
Other Comments
To learn the advanced parts of a language, you must surround yourself with it. Speaking and learning from Deaf people is the best. After recieving tutoring or training, make sure to apply it by going out and speaking to many different Deaf people. Pick the teacher who can teach you what you need to know.
