Experience Summary
I'm a recent college graduate with two Bachelors degrees from Salem State University: one in English/Writing and one in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Applied Social Ethics. In college, I have won two essay writing contests within the philosophy department, and placed third in a university creative writing competition. I recently completed an internship that used innovative techniques to teach grammar skills to college freshman. I have presented at two undergraduate philosophy conferences, in Salem, MA and in Forest Grove, Oregon. I have experience teaching large groups and one-on-one students, curriculum planning, editing, and private tutoring. I'm also currently writing an article upon request from the Salem News newspaper on this internship program. In addition to teaching and writing experience, I also served as president of the university's philosophy club and a number of other committees.
Teaching Style
I prefer an interactive approach to teaching. My goal is to help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills by themselves, limiting their dependence on tutoring or other guidance. For younger children, I have experience teaching grammar in an innovative game-setting.
