Experience Summary
I recently completed a degree in Creative Writing with a focus on poetry, fiction, literature, and literary and cultural theory. Completion of a thesis focusing on the deep investigation of language and narrative as they function in Postmodern Women's Poetics, with a corresponding lecture presented at Goddard College on the manifestation of the gender binary through the entrance into language and the symbolic order, and how the semioclasm of postmodern text and the interrogation of classical feminism might open up space for a new non hierarchical access to language. I also just finished 2+ years of interning at the St. Marks Poetry Project in New York City, as well as occasional involvement at Poets House, Bluestockings Bookstore Collective & Activist Center, ABC No Rio Zine Library, and the publication Showpaper, working among some of the most respected writers, artists and teachers in the country.
Teaching Style
Because of the unique style of education I have received, my idea of a great teacher is one who functions more as a mentor, working with the student through socratic dialogue and experiential exersizes. A tutor should not only help the student to progress academically in the subject area of focus, but to ignite the students passion for the subject so they will thrive independently after the sessions are over. A combination of activities geared specifically toward meeting academic goals, working through past educational blocks to develop problem-solving strategies for the student, and an ongoing exposure to culturally relevant/current happenings in the field of writing, will provide a multilayered and well rounded immersion into writing and poetics. Resect for the student and a belief in the capability of all learners are what truly set my educational practices apart.
My Hobbies
Poetry, Darkroom Photography, Organic farming and gardening.
