Experience Summary
I was a Supply instructor for Atlanta Public Schools for approximately eight years, and have a degree in English. I worked at the middle grades level in various subjects, as required, with a primary focus in math. I unfortunately do not have the materials left from my employ, but can tutor using computers, and school materials for reference.
Teaching Style
The realization that children do well in small group instructional settings, and on an individual tutoring basis, is what I took most from my years in the classroom. My focus is to ascertain the instructional level needed, then instruct for that standpoint. I do not like busywork, but instead look for progress in the individual child. Once the subject is mastered, then it is time to move on to other subjects. The compensation is negotiable depending on the number of children tutored. I also do not set a time frame regarding instruction, as children are individuals, and their learning should be treated as such. I do not like projects, unless it not very complicated, because that would be a singular goal; this fosters learning, and teaches an individual to become broad based regarding the gathering of intelligence. This is how I was taught from an early age, especially from supplementing a primary education, and I developed into a National Merit Scholar. I like doing for children educationally what was done for me.
