About Me

Experience Summary

Stay at home mom with experience in helping my own children to read, and write, along with other elementary school subjects. I have volunteered at my children's school in the classroom, helping children to read, and write, and completing basic classroom duties. I have worked with children in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades mostly, but feel comfortable working with any grade level K - 5 child, helping them to learn to read and write, and looking forward to giving them the confidence they need to succeed. I have helped in other subject's, but I have specifically chosen to tutor in reading and writing, because they are my most enjoyable subjects to teach! I have been a volunteer off and on at my children's school since 2008.

Teaching Style

I believe in a patient, understanding way of teaching. In order for the child to learn to read and write, a person must have a great deal of patience and understanding. Never make the child feel uncomfortable or frustrated. Reading and writing takes time, and with patience and understanding, along with encouragement, and praise, a child can learn to read and write with confidence.

My Hobbies

Cooking! Outdoor sports with my children, such as: soccer, and throwing a football, which are favorite's! Of course, reading! It's relaxing, and can only make you smarter, and exercises your brain! Family outing's with my husband and children; fishing, and four - wheeling!

Other Comments

Great with elementary school children. Available Monday - Friday only. Hour's from 4:30pm - 5:30pm, and could possibly be in my home. After 5:30pm would preferably be in library/outside setting. Hour's and setting can be discussed and negotiated.

Subject Commentary

Elementary Reading
I helped as a volunteer for Second Creek Elementary school in my daughter's classroom. I would often help 1 - 5 children at a separate table with their classroom work. There were often times where each child needed help learning how to read their book, or instruction's on their worksheet, as well as write their names and words. I would help the child sound the words out, and read sentences. I would congratulate the child on a job well done. Working each day with these children made a difference, and soon they were able to sound the words out, and read some of the sentences on their own! They also learned how to write their names, and words to help build sentences. It's a great feeling to see a child smile, run up to you, and say "I did it!". They had confidence, and motivation to want to keep learning how to read and write. I really felt like I made a difference!
