Experience Summary
Hi, I'm Sam, a math tutor and former college professor who wants to help students young and old excel in mathematics, computers, and other subjects that do best with a focused, logical approach. I've been tutoring for over five years and apply a variety of methods to help students feel confident about whatever test, assignment, or course the may struggle with.
Teaching Style
In my initial session I start by identifying the big picture: is the student trying to pass a course, or simply improve their skills? Are they deficient in basic arithmetic, or are the more advanced concepts giving them trouble? Are they relying too much on technology, or do they need to learn how to take advantage of a TI-84 calculator? All of these issues are particular to the student, so I don't apply a "one-size-fits-all" approach to my clients. I like to learn in what way they respond best to tutoring and teaching, and go from there.
My Hobbies
In addition to enjoying math, I am a published writer and enjoy working with students in English subjects as well as mathematics and computers. I also am passionate about healthy eating, plant-based diets, fitness, and musical literacy.
