Experience Summary
Special Education Instructional Assistant for 8 years (2000 to 2008) I assisted students needing help with reading, writing, and/or math at the elementary and middle school levels.
Special Education Teacher: (2009 to current): I teach students with mild to moderate learning disabilities reading, writing, and math.
Teaching Style
I like to make learning as fun as possible. I strive to inspire students to want to learn rather than just teach. Communication is a key is a factor in my teaching. Communication between parents and teacher is essential in meeting the students needs.
My Hobbies
Reading, waterskiing, boating, fishing, museums, art exhibits, etc.
Math |
Proficiency: Expert
|
I have a great deal of experience in working with students struggling with basic math skills and concepts. From my experience in teaching, many students have not learned their basic math facts and/or fractions, decimals, and percents. These skills are necessary for students to move on to higher level math concepts. |
Reading |
This is one of my top subjects!
Proficiency: Expert
|
I have worked primarily with students who have learning disabilities in reading. In addition to direct instruction in reading, pre and post assessments are ongoing during my work with students. This provides information on the students progress and/or specific areas in reading that need to be addressed. |
Spelling |
This is one of my top subjects!
Proficiency: Expert
|
I teach not only the correct spelling of words, but also the definition and how the words should be used correctly in sentences. |
Writing |
This is one of my top subjects!
Proficiency: Expert
|
I have very strong skills in teaching the basics in writing. Often times I have found that many students do not have a strong foundation in sentence or paragraph structure. Once these skills have been firmly established, I then have students concentrate on their use of vocabulary, expression, and description in their writing. |
