Experience Summary

Brief Summary of Experience: While in college, I have had the pleasure of volunteering as a mentor and tutor before and after school at F.L. Stanton, Garden Hills, Bethune Cookman Elementary Schools and Kennedy Middle School. During the summer of 2009, I was privileged to work as an intern and tutor at Bayshore Christian Ministries. While there, I tutored third and fourth graders in Math, Science, Language Arts, and Reading. I was also the art teacher where I helped facilitate weekly art classes and an art exhibition. As an art student, I gained an enriched understanding in the arts of painting, drawing, computer art, and Art History. Furthermore, as a college graduate, I have acquired mastery skills writing, reading, public speaking, study skills, and basic math. Greetings, As a recent graduate and aspiring elementary educator, it is my pleasure to encourage higher achievement in areas where a student requires extra nurturing and care. It is my absolute pleasure to offer tutoring services not only to help build satisfactory skills in the rudimentary subjects of reading, math, and science but in motivating and building the student's overall confidence. Tutoring for me is my way of mentoring young minds and giving young people their best chance of hope that will positively affect their future aspirations and dreams. The subjects that I offer to tutor are Elementary Level Math, Reading, Science, Language Arts, and Writing (including Creative Writing). Building study skills is another service made available for students in Elementary through High School grade levels; this includes ACT and SAT preparation. Furthermore, I offer services to help students in motivational, public speaking along with an array of other areas where tutoring and coaching is necessary. I am open to the challenge of learning and acquiring skills in order to tutor students in other subject areas that I may not directly offer, as well. Furthermore, my other areas of expertise are visual arts, focusing specifically on drawing, painting and computer art, as well as arts-n-craft projects. With a degree in fine arts, I find tutoring as a wonderful way of sharing my passion for art with others. I am also available to help students from the Elementary to College-level who are taking classes in Art History. With great commitment, students will learn the importance of Art History and how to be successful within that particular classroom setting. As an artist, tutoring on these subjects is the same as sharing a part of who I am; the subject areas are more personal and will be easy to teach in the way the student can best understand. As an aspiring primary grades teacher, I take advantage of hands-on teaching aids in order to reinforce the same hands-on learning the student receives in the classroom. Tutoring sessions will most definitely encompass audio and visual aid, lesson-based games and trivia, colorful interactive posters, along with the more traditional study materials like flash cards, call-and-response tools, and practice worksheets. Ultimately, the goal is to expose the student with the desired subjects using methods that appeal to the senses of sight, sound, and touch. I enjoy taking advantage of opportunities to share with young people the power of knowledge and offer innovative tools to bring out their greatest potential. As a mentor in my local community, I enjoy changing the lives of young people through motivational speaking, teaching, and simply cultivating genuine relationships with each of them. I hope to carry these amazing experiences as a mentor into the field of tutoring.

Teaching Style

As an aspiring primary grades teacher, I take advantage of hands-on teaching aids. Tutoring sessions will most definitely encompass audio and visual aid, lesson-based games and trivia, colorful interactive posters, along with the more traditional study materials including flash cards, call-and-response tools, and practice worksheets. Ultimately, the goal is to expose the student with the desired subjects using methods that appeal to the senses of sight, sound, and touch. I am a firm believer in pulling out the best potential in each student with patience, repetition, unifying my lessons with the Georgia state standards and requirements, and most importantly positive words and motivation.

Other Comments

I am very warm, teach principles of good character and integrity while tutoring academic/liberal arts subjects. I am currently aspiring to become an educator and find youth outreach/mentoring/teaching/tutoring/counseling is my life's mission and calling.
