Experience Summary
In China I worked in a private English training school for six years. Most of my students were bewteen the ages of 3 and 12. After my third year of teaching English I was promoted to Chinese teacher manager, which means that I wrote curriculum and trained the new teachers. In addition to teaching English I also taught our American teachers and their children Chinese. My experience is quite diverse I have taught from five different books, 2 different software programs and I have developed a lot of my own teaching material. This experience has prepared me for almost any type of student.
Teaching Style
I believe that motivated students will learn better than bored students, especially at the younger ages. If students are interested in the class and are payinng attention then they will get more out of the class. With this in mind I try integrate vocabulary and grammar lessons in with games and activities so that the children don't realize that they are actually learning. I also believe that comprehensible input is very important. Students need the opportunity to hear a native speaker producing the target language in a manner that they can understand, only then can they make advances in their language skills. Therefore I try to keep my lessons primarily in Chinese, using English only when absolutely necessary. Finally, I follow the age old adage of practice makes perfect. No matter how important input is, output is equally important. I believe that students need the opportunity to speak and make mistakes, only when they make mistakes can they learn from them and improves their speaking ability.
My Hobbies
Like most women I enjoy shopping and getting my nails done, but other than that I really enjoy singing. When I was in China I frequently went to KTV rooms (places where you can sing Karaoke), here in America when I'm bored I like practice singing American songs. I also really enjoy singing and hiking in the mountains.
