About Me

Experience Summary

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Minnesota and have been working as a psychologist for going on 20 years. Both my undergraduate and Master's degrees are in psychology and counseling services. As an undergraduate, I was the psychology tutor for college students who were taking the general psychology classes. In my current job, I provide counseling, consultation and coaching services to employees in over organizations. I also provide training on a number of topics around mental health. Learning has been a life-long passion of mine and I have volunteered at a number of organizations over my career to provide tutoring on general courses for elementary students through a YMCA program, and also provided life skill tutoring and coaching for Hmong refugees who recently entered the U.S. I also keep myself abreast of new developments in the field of psychology by participating in a book group whose members are psychologists. The books we read focus on current topics in the field. Over my career I have also belonged to a number of professional organizations in the field of psychology and have presented at their conferences in the U.S., Canada and China.

Teaching Style

My first focus in on developing rapport with the student and also discussing what they (or their parent/s) may be looking for from a tutor. I like to take a positive and developmental approach which focuses on building in goals and building on the success of those goals. Also finding out how the student learns or likes to learn, and assessing what has been successful/not so successful in the past for learning a subject. I like to end each session with of review of the student relaying what he or she has learned, as this can really help with retention of information.

My Hobbies

Downhill skiing, SCUBA diving, kayaking, reading, cooking and travel.
