Experience Summary
Taught Modern Standard Arabic levels 101 & 102 (introductory) at the Ohio State University for three quarters, as well as the same classes at Columbus State Community College for nearly two years. Have tutored students in the past in Modern Standard and dialectical Arabic. I am fluent in Modern Standard, Levantine (Lebanese, Syrian, Jordanian, Palestinian), and Iraqi Arabic (which is also similar to Gulf region Arabic). Comfortable tutoring introductory, mid-level, and even advanced level Arabic depending on student's skill level.
Teaching Style
I really enjoy teaching through a variety of games and activities. I think the student should do most of the talking, as it can get dull listening to my own voice all of the time. It is also important that the knowledge acquired is actually useful, so I like to know why a student is learning Arabic and where and how s/he plans to use it, in order to adapt the lesson plan to best fit his or her needs.
Other Comments
Arabic is one of the most incredible languages in the world, and one of the most widely used. If you're interested in learning - go for it! It is not as difficult as they would have you think, it is very useful in the job market, and once you understand the system of roots and patterns, you will be able to figure out the language very quickly. Start learning, and enjoy yourself!
